Lil Wayne Drops “No Ceilings” Mixtape and Gets in Legal Trouble

Lil Wayne and Baby

Lil Wayne and Baby Laughing it Up

Yes, more Lil Wayne news to share. It seems like this guy is everywhere. Totally unavoidable. Anyway, over the weekend Lil Wayne released his No Ceilings mixtape to the world. Although the album leaked a couple days early, Wayne insisted it wasn’t finished and the real version would be released on it’s intended date of Halloween.

I downloaded the leaked version and have also downloaded the real version. It seems to me that Wayne was buffing because the mixtapes are extremely similar. Just a few different tracks.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop-a-loop with his blinged out mic

It’s nearly Wednesday so you know what that means… the first edition of West Coast Wednesday. Back in Sacramento, one of the local hip hop radio stations plays an hour of classic West Coast hip hop every Wednesday. It is awesome to hear classic cuts from some from of music’s greatest artists.

To honor the greatest coast, each Wednesday I will feature one West Coast artist and show one of their classic music videos.

This week’s artist and song is Snoop Dogg‘s “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)”

Lil Wayne and Kanye West at the Grammys

This past week and weekend two of hip hop’s biggest acts faced the law. Both Lil Wayne and Kanye West faced the long arm of law steaming altercations in the past couple of years.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to gun possession chargers in a Manhattan on Thursday October 22nd. As part of this peal deal Wayne will be headed to prison for one year, but could only be locked up for about eight to ten months assuming he behaves well.

Kanye West was also in court, but not on gun chargers. In 2008 Kanye put the beat down on a paparazzi and his camera while attempting to leave the airport.

Watch out for RZA's Jedi Mind Tricks.

The RZA has been everywhere as of late. He has shown up in movies and still continues to do his hip hop thing. But RZA is also an author. A few years back he wrote, The Wu-Tang Manual, the reference book for everything Wu. Now, the MC has another book out, The Tao of Wu, a memoir of sorts. To promote the book, The RZA appeared on Tavis Smiley’s talk show the other night.

5 Hip Hop Songs About The “Balloon Boy”

Balloon Boy

Falcon Heene Looks For His Balloon.

Last week something unusual enfolded on CNN. A large sliver balloon flew over Colorado. No one was sure what it was or who had released it as the craft floated in the breeze details emerged. It was apparently released by a boy who’s parents are amateur scientists. Rumors flew about where the boy was who released the balloon. His younger brother said he saw him climb in before take off.

It turned out the boy, Falcon Heene, wasn’t in the balloon and the whole thing was a stunt. This was allĀ  Orchestrated by his parents in order land a reality TV show. If you want more of the story you can read about it here.

Anyway, I though it would be interesting to ponder if the family didn’t get a TV show, but a movie, what hip hop tracks would show up on the soundtrack?

Kanye! Watch Out For Stomach Demons!

There is no getting around it, this bit of cinema is strange. Awhile back Spike Jonze director of Where the Wild Things Are, announced he would direct a short film starring Kanye West. The film was supposed to be released via iTunes on September 8th of this year, but never did.
