This past week and weekend two of hip hop’s biggest acts faced the law. Both Lil Wayne and Kanye West faced the long arm of law steaming altercations in the past couple of years.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to gun possession chargers in a Manhattan on Thursday October 22nd. As part of this peal deal Wayne will be headed to prison for one year, but could only be locked up for about eight to ten months assuming he behaves well.

Kanye West was also in court, but not on gun chargers. In 2008 Kanye put the beat down on a paparazzi and his camera while attempting to leave the airport.

Here is a video of the incident:

Although charges in the case against Kanye have been thrown out, the MC and his business manager must complete 50 hours in community service. According to CNN, Kanye has completed 12 hours of anger management classes and paid for the broken camera.

Now what does this mean for both artists?

I, along with many others question what Lil Wayne’s prison time will do for his career. The dude in on a whole other level success wise, but will the jail time hurt is momentum? I am not sure. I don’t think it will help though. I already think Lil Wayne is on the outs. He has spread him self everywhere. He has been featured on tracks with Jason Mraz and Weezer. And along with his much delayed Rebirth album, I think Lil Wayne is on the way out.

As for Kanye, this is a small blip in his career. I think it is hilarious this sentencing has gotten less press coverage then Weezy stealing the mic from Taylor Swift at this year’s VMAs. I think community service will do Kanye West some good, but I think some of those community service hours could be coupled with more anger management classes. Did you watch the video above? Kanye went off.
