Fabolous With Some Lofty Jewlery On

Well kind of. The news this weekend is that Fabolous and/or his crew were possibly involved with the theft of a unique Lamborghini. The theft was alleged happened in January of this year at the InterContinental Buckhead in Atlanta Georgia. At first there was little evidence to muster up any suspects, but now surveillance tape video has surfaced showing Loso leaving the hotel with his crew and members of the crew receiving keys to the luxury car.

Thanks to information provided by Fabolous, the car was located. And since to a deal with the police the Brooklyn will see not legal trouble. Below is a video of a news report on the issue with some of the surveillance video.

Look Fabolous dodged a bullet on that one. It also looks like he isn’t having much luck with cars. I wrote awhile back about how was suspected to have been in a car accident, but instead got sick while driving his vehicle.

After Ice Cube left NWA he went solo and did quite well. Below are two videos for some of Cube’s biggest hits, “It Was A Good Day” and “Check Yo Self.” Unknown to me until now, it looks like the videos for tracks play together like a mini movie. Dope. Enjoy.

Although Cube is on and doing other things, like movies. Both of this songs are West Coast anthems.

Lil Wayne Showing Some Love

Tomorrow is going to be a pretty big day in hip hop. There is a lot happening. To make it easier for everyone I am going to break it down in list form and highlight what I think are the three biggest news items.

1. Documentary on Lil Wayne is released on DVD tomorrow.

I know I said I was going to cut back on Lil Wayne, but he is everywhere. Absolutely everywhere. This is another example. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, “The Carter” takes an intimate look at the world’s number one rapper. Although the project looks promising Wayne attempting to have it’s release stopped. But eventually allowed it’s release. Judging from some of the clips I have seen. It looks like it should pretty interesting. Below are some clips from the film. The first is the official trailer and the second is a clip from the film.

2. Kanye West Releases “Whatever You Want (G.O.O.D. Music Remix)”

On his blog, Kanye posted a poster teasing the release of a “Whatever You Want” remix. The remix will feature Consequence, John Legend, Common, Kid Cudi and Big Sean. Can’t wait to hear this one. Below is a video for Kid Cudi’s “Make Her Say” Featuring Kanye West and Common

3. Selected Cities Get Pre-Sale Tickets For Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour

To follow the success of Jay-Z‘s Blueprint 3 album, Hova will be hitting the road with Young Jeezy. While the tour is country wide and begins in February, selected pre-sale tickets for certain cities will be available tomorrow. Chicago is included as one of those cities. All tickets will be available come the 21st. I missed Jay-Z once when he cancelled his tour with R. Kelly and I am not going to miss him again. Below is a video for Jay-Z’s “Empire State”

Slug and Ant Don't Like You

Theeereeeeeeee baaaaaacccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. Ladies and gentleman come Tuesday underground hip hop’s super group, Felt, return!. The group’s third album, A Tribute to Rosie Perez, will be produced by another underground don, Aesop Rock. The group’s other two albums, A Tribute to Christina Ricci and A Tribute to Lisa Bonet, we extremely well done and sold pretty well. This time around things are going to be a bit different.

While there is a new producer the album will also be sold some place new too. According to the group’s myspace page the disc will be available for purchase at numerous Target locations.

Whoa. This news came as a bit of shock to me. The threesome have all been known for their underground success, but have scratched the mainstream surface. But Target? That is that big time.

No matter where it is sold, I am pretty sure the album is going to rock. Judging from the track on their myspace, Felt 3 is going be dope.

Dude Kinda Looks Like A Lady

Will he? Won’t he? Who knows. In recent days Steven Tyler has said he is quitting Aerosmith and now he isn’t. What is going on? Well awhile ago Joe Perry said they were going to look for replacements if Tyler did leave the band. That got me to thinking… who in the hip hop world could replace Steven Tyler? Here are my top 5 candidates.

5. Black Thought of The Roots

Normally I wouldn’t go for Black Thought, but after the release of The Roots‘ new single “How I Got Over” and his work on Jimmy Fallon‘s show I am thinking differently. On The Roots new track, Thought sings most of the track in a soft crooning voice. Very impressive to say the least. And on Jimmy Fallon, Thought “slow jams” the news by signing about today’s important issues. By show casing his vocal skills, I think Though would fit in just fine belting out “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.”

4. Lil Wayne

I said I was going to Wayne a break for awhile but I can’t. But I think Wayne would bring a totally different audience to see the dinosaurs-I mean- Aerosmith. Lil Wayne has also made it clear he wants to make his way into the rock world, with his upcoming (and much delayed) album Rebirth taking a heavy rock influence. What better way to break into the rock world than joining an already successful rock band? Nothing.

3. Run DMC

Now this one kind of makes sense. Run DMC helped save Aerosmith’s career in the mid-eighties and the song the two groups did together, “Walk This Way.” The track also aided in bringing rap into the fore front of American pop culture. So couldn’t they do it again? But this time without Steven Tyler. I can see DMC and Run jumping around on stage belting out “Dude Looks Like A Lady.” I really can.

2. Ghostface Killah

I already wrote a post about how I think Ghostface might be the next big advice columnist, but I could see him taking Steven Tyler’s place. Both entertainers are other worldly in a sense and larger than life. I think that Ghostface wears more gold and fur than Tyler, but that isn’t a problem. I don’t have too many other reasons why Ghostface would be an awesome front man, he just would. Look at him. What can’t that man do?

1. Lil Jon

Can’t you just see Aerosmith coming out on stage while all the lights are down. The band takes their places readying their respective instruments. The band begins to play slowly, then a glimmer of light shines on the stage. A cup with CRUNK spelled in diamond illuminates the stage as the band begins to play “Sweet Emotions.” Right before the verse kicks in Lil Jon lets out his signature “Yeah!” Can’t you see it? I can. This would do so much good for both parties. Lil Jon would come to back to the spot light and Aerosmith would receive more press than ever. And how fun would it be to see Lil Jon and Aerosmith on stage together?

2pac’s video for “To Live and Die in L.A.”:

Although I loved Murs For President, I absolutely not wait for another 9th Wonder Murs Record or another Felt album. Every Felt and 9th album has been amazing. I really hope these upcoming LPs don’t disappoint.

Busting out of Compton, California in the late 80s, NWA brought a whole new brand of hip hop to the world. The hard hitting and brash lyrics delivered stories to the world about the trails and tribulations on the West Coast. Although there had been artists in hip hop from the West, NWA permanently fixed attention on the left coast.

While the crew’s career only lasted three albums, the impact they left on music is everlasting.

Lil Wayne and Baby Laughing it Up

Yes, more Lil Wayne news to share. It seems like this guy is everywhere. Totally unavoidable. Anyway, over the weekend Lil Wayne released his No Ceilings mixtape to the world. Although the album leaked a couple days early, Wayne insisted it wasn’t finished and the real version would be released on it’s intended date of Halloween.

I downloaded the leaked version and have also downloaded the real version. It seems to me that Wayne was buffing because the mixtapes are extremely similar. Just a few different tracks.

The mixtape is alright, not one of Wayne’s best, but still pretty dope. It is frustrating to hear the same shit over and over again though. Vagina this, I fuck women that and “young money” every other line. Wayne needs to step his mixtape game up. He can too. I feel that Wayne has the power to say some really cool and important shit, but I don’t he has realized it yet.

While Wayne was dropping mixtapes, a dude in Florida was dropping lawsuits. This dude in the sunshine state claims that Wayne and Baby for using his voice on one of his records. Like Wayne needs any more legal problems.

Maybe it’s time for Lil Wayne to lay low for awhile.

Snoop-a-loop with his blinged out mic

It’s nearly Wednesday so you know what that means… the first edition of West Coast Wednesday. Back in Sacramento, one of the local hip hop radio stations plays an hour of classic West Coast hip hop every Wednesday. It is awesome to hear classic cuts from some from of music’s greatest artists.

To honor the greatest coast, each Wednesday I will feature one West Coast artist and show one of their classic music videos.

This week’s artist and song is Snoop Dogg‘s “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)”

The first single off Snoop’s 1993 solo debut Doggystyle was his hello to hip hop. And since this song debuted, Snoop hasn’t gone away. He has been releasing gangsta shit non-stop. He has even had time to do some TV. Starring in his own TV show, Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood.

Snoop even showed helped Martha Stewart mix it up in the kitchen:

“You don’t love me, you just love my doggystyle.”
